Liverpool Sign New Manager To Replace Arne Slot

Liverpool have confirmed the signing of Andoni Iraola to a tow-year deal, replacing former head coach Arne Slot, who was sacked over the club's performance.

Iraola became highly sought following his performance at Bournemouth. He joined the club from Rayo Vallecano in 2023. However, the just-concluded season saw a spike in the Cherries performance in the Premier League. He led the team to qualify for their first European competition, after finishing sixth with 57 points.

"Really excited," said Iraola about his signing. "I think Liverpool gives me the chance to coach top players, and top players give you the chance to fight for titles. To win titles."

Arne Slot's reign at Anfield came under hammer after leading the Reds to a 1-1 draw against Brentford in the season-ending game. The Reds narrowly secured a UEFA Champions League ticket in fifth. However, they finished the season without a single.

The Dutch manager, 47, was only two seasons into his job at Liverpool and had won the Premier League with the side in his debut - their second League title in 30 years - before he was dismissed. As the 2024/25 champions, Liverpool signed a couple of high-profiled players such as Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike in the summer. Unfortunately, the team's performance did not commensurate performance.

Liverpool ended its 30-year Premier League title drought, winning the 2019/20 season with former manager Jurgen Klopp. Arne Slot won it for the second-time since Klopp did in the 2024/25 season. Liverpool seized the summer of the year to buy young and vibrant players, spending almost £450 million in the transfer market.
