Novak Djokovic Withdraws From Madrid Open
Novak Djokovic has withdrawn from the Madrid Open due to an injury believed to have been lingering since his defeat at the Indian Wells Masters.
The three-time Madrid Open champion has now withdrawn from three consecutive Masters 1,000 events: the Miami Open, the Monte Carlo Masters, and the Madrid Open. He was eliminated in the round of 16of the Indian Wells Masters by British player Jack Draper.
"Madrid, unfortunately, I won't be able to compete at the Madrid Open this year," he wrote in a social media update. "I'm continuing my recovery in order to be back soon. Hasta pronto."
Even though Djokovic already has a lot of Masters 1,000 titles to his name, he has not won a Masters 1,000 event title since his last at the Paris Masters in 2024. The Serb has won a record 40 Masters titles in his career. He also has a record 24 Grand Slam titles.
He is among the players projected to participate in the Italian Open later on in April. He is currently ranked number four in the ATP World Rankings, despite participating in only two events this season: the Australian Open and the Indian Wells Masters. He reached the final of the Australian Open in Melbourne, losing to Carlos Alcaraz.
