Indian Wells: Daniil Medvedev Knocks Out Jack Draper After Ousting Novak Djokovic

Jack Draper and Cameron Norrie are out of the Indian Wells Masters, ending the remaining two British players' spell in the quarterfinals.

Novak Djokovic had an early exit from the Indian Wells Masters 1000 in a defeat to Drapet, followed by the Briton's elimination in the quarterfinals by Daniil Medvedev in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.

Draper delivered his best performance in the third round against the five-time champion, Djokovic. He rallied from a set down to outclass the Serbian player in three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(5).

It was the Briton's first victory against Djokovic in a major event. After losing the opener, Draper engaged Djokovic in an exhausting second set to win his first break at 4-4, claiming three straight games to win the set.

The third was another classic effort from the Briton, breaking for the second time at 1-1 to take a head lead. Djokovic broke for the third time at 4-5 and forced the set to go the distance. However, the five-time champion lost the tiebreak with a backhand error.

Eventually, Draper's advancement would be short-lived as Medvedev eliminated him in two straight sets, 6-1, 7-5. The Russian broke three times in five break points advantages.

In another separate match, Norrie was eliminated by Carlos Alcaraz in 6-3, 6-4, advancing into his fifth consecutive Indian Wells semi-finals.

Alcaraz had just won two consecutive ATP Tour finals, the Australian Open and Qatar Open. His victory against Norrie extended his winning streak to 16 consecutive matches this season.

"Every time I play against him, it's always really tough for me," Alcaraz recalled. "It's a little bit confusing with his style, his topspin forehand, super high. And then the backhand, really flat and really low."
