Bayern Munich Knock Real Madrid Out of UEFA Champions League

Real Madrid are out of the UEFA Champions League, after losing 4-3 to Bayern Munich in the second leg of the quarter-final with an aggregate score of 6-4.

Coming into the match, the Spaniards had a deficit of 1-2 to undo from their first-leg tie. They gained a head start by the end of the first half before losing Eduardo Camavinga to a red card offense, and the game took a new turn to Bayern's advantage.

Arda Guler had contributed a brace to the scoreline before Kylian Mbappe scored the third for Madrid near the closing stages of the first half. They secured the game on aggregate scores to equalise. Aleksandar Pavlovic and Harry Kane scored the first-half goals for Bayern.

The Germans bounced back moments after Eduardo was dismissed. They built up pressure on the left wing, and Jamal Musaila released a pass to Luis Diaz, who darted across the 18-yard box and curled the ball into the top corner. Michael Olise later sealed the victory on a counter with an individual effort in injury time.

Losing the match means Real Madrid have failed to reach the UEFA Champions League semifinal for the second time in a row. They were defeated by Arsenal in the last edition after winning the trophy for the 15th time in the 2023/24 season

Overview

Real Madrid's comeback from the deficit was plausible. They had the pace and explored counterattacks to find the equaliser. All those qualities lasted through the first half. The game that was set to go the distance into extra time did not.

Real Madrid had done everything right until Eduardo Camavinga let his emotions run wild after a rough tackle, and he was dismissed. Eduardo's red card was the turning point for Real Madrid, and they could not recover from the shock. While Real Madrid were trying to recoup their composure over the midfielder's dismissal, Diaz struck the banger, and that set them on course out of the competition, but Oliseh put the game to bed.
