Referee Under Investigation For Derogatory Remarks On Liverpool, Jurgen Klopp
England FA has announced it will launch an investigation into an accusation against a referee, David Coote over his conduct towards Liverpool and the Reds' former manager, Jurgen Klopp.
Coote was accused of using derogatory remarks towards the team and its former boss during their Premier League game against Burnley back in 2020. The official has now been suspended by the governing body following the circulation of a video from the match online. The said game ended Liverpool' in a draw (1-1) and that also ended 24 games unbeaten run that season.
Another body, Premier League Match Official Limited (PGMOL) under which Coote is registered as an official, also confirmed the suspension of the official for the period that the FA investigation will be completed.
"David Coote has been suspended with immigration effect pending a fill investigation," said the body in a statement. "PGMOL will be making no further comment until that process is complete."
Klopp questioned the official's decisions for not awarding free-kicks to his team after the game. Liverpool went on that same season to win the Premier League title for the first time in 30 years. Klopp left the club last summer after spending nine year at Anfield stadium.
