AFCON 2025: Mozambique Secure First Qualification to Round of 16 After Losing to Cameroon

Mozambique finished the group stage in third after losing 2-1 to Cameroon, making a historic first-time appearance in the AFCON Cup knockouts.

The Mambas are making their sixth appearance in the competition. They claimed their first-ever victory in the AFCON Cup by winning 3-2 against Gabon, who have now been eliminated. The maximum points earned them a place in the knockout stages.

They would have settled for a draw at least after Geny Catamo struck to give the side the lead in the 23rd minute, but an own goal from Nene restored level terms for the Cameroonians, who took the lead in the second half from Christian Kofane's individual effort.

The Indomitable Lions finished in second place behind the Ivory Coast in Group F, while Mozambique qualified in third. They will face Nigeria in the round of 16.
