Can Las Vegas Grand Prix Be Decider of F1 Title Race?
As the Las Vegas Grand Prix takes off this weekend, it might turn out to decide the fate of the F1 Championship title race between Max Verstappen and Lando Norris.
Already, contenders like Charles Leclerc and Sergio Perez have cooled off, leaving the duo up front to chase the trophy. Though, the chance seemed slim for Norris but he remained in the contest as McLaren have seen their performance improved this season.
Last weekend was good for Verstappen, who fought from the rear to win the race at Interlagos in Brazil. That victory extended his point lead over Norris by 62 points. Meanwhile, Norris started in pole at the race but a mishap on the track in the latter stages, gave up the chance as Verstappen sped by to take a provisional lead en route to victory.
"I just want to focus on the weekend and try to have a good performance," said Verstappen when asked about the race in Las Vegas. "Brazil was a very welcome victory for us after a while, but this is again very different."
Red Bull have had a spell of struggles with their performance this season. At some point, Verstappen could not hold his frustrations. He called his car "undriveable" in September following his sixth consecutive winless race. Consequently, that tightened up the title race between him and Norris.
"This, of course, is a completely different track, completely different temperature. I just hope that we can continue that momentum a little bit," he acknowledged about the race.
However, Norris has slimmer chances to the trophy regarding his points, Verstappen, likewise, didn't still want to wave off the fact that his Red Bull is "definitely not the quickest car" like it was in previous seasons.
While Verstappen leads the driver's standings, Red Bull are not leading the constructors, and are behind both Ferrari and McLaren, who leads by 49 points. Should McLaren maintain their performance, they stand to win the F1 Constructors trophy since 2008 with former F1 champion, Lewis Hamilton.
