Max Verstappen Sounds Early Warning, Describes Red Bull As "Undriveable" Amidst Challenges From McLaren

Max Verstappen is making an obvious confession, perhaps too early or a little pessimistic to have believed that the chances of Red Bull defending the F1 championship this season does not seem to be in view. He may not be far from being right - by the way, he is a three-time champion - after six consecutive winless races, that is enough for him to sound an early warning to his team.

If there is any reason for Verstappen's view of his team's performance, it is no other but McLaren's. Lando Norris have is not only trailing the Dutch driver as the only arch-rival, McLaren is just eight points behind Red Bull in the constructors' standings. They standing a better chance of overtaking Red Bull should what Verstappen described as "undriveable" car situation persist.

After losing at the Italian GP which was won by Ferrari Charles Leclerc, the defending champion said in an interview after the race: "At this moment neither championship is realistic."

Besides starting in P7 at Monza, Verstappen did have the luxury of pace like he would, rather it was Leclerc who made most of the day with Oscar Piastri and Norris following in second and third respectively.

He goes on to say: "We have gone from the most dominant car ever to an undriveable car in the space of six to eight months. We gave turned it into a monster. That is very weird."

Verstappen's worries may not be fear-mongering, after all. With eight races remaining, Norris stands the chance to getting too close by the end of the season, and by then, McLaren might have passed his team in the standing to top for the constructors' championship.

McLaren have not won the F1 Championship ever since Lewis Hamilton won it for the team in 2008. It was Hamilton first ever F1 championship title and McLaren also won the constructors' title in the same season. With 62 points between Norris and Verstappen, the Red Bull driver might have just sensed the challenge from his counterpart.
