Tomas Tuchel Appointed To Replace Gareth Southgate As England's New Manager

Tomas Tuchel is the new manager of the England national team, in replacement of former head coach, Gareth Southgate who stepped down after leading the country to finish third of the 2024 UEFA European Championship.

The appointment of the former Chelsea manager was confirmed by the FA at a press conference on Wednesday. The deal agreed to is believed to be an 18-month contract with an option for contract extension, according to Tochel's statement.

"It's 18 months and then we decided to sit together and let's see. It's a little bit of a step into the unknown for me," said Tuchel.

Until now, since he left Bayern Munich in the summer, Tuchel has remained out of management role. There were reports earlier, that he was linked to Manchester United to replace Erik ten Hag. That offer, he did not accept and the club later resolved to keep the Danish manager, anyhow.

He revealed that part of his vision for the Three Lions he stated is to deliver the Fifa World Cup to the country, which has eluded the team since 1966. At the 2022 Fifa World Cup in Qatar, Southgate led the team to the quarterfinals where the team was eliminated by France in 2-1 defeat.

Tuchel added: "I know there are some trophies missing, in the federation. Of course, I want to be...I want to help to make it happen."

The German, 51, in the last nine years of his coaching career has won trophies across the clubs he worked at. From Borussia Dortmund, PSG, Chelsea and recently to Bayern Munich, he has won the Champions League (Chelsea, 2020-21), domestic league titles (Bayern Munich and PSG) and other important silverware.
