Lionel Messi Agrees Deal With Paris Saint-Germain For £1m Weekly Wages
Lionel Messi has found a new home after agreeing to a two-year with Paris Saint-Germain following his shock exit from Barcelona where has spent 17 years of his football career.
Barcelona announced the player's exit and cancellation of an agreement had just weeks earlier, blaming its decision on "financial and structural" issues considering La Liga spending rules.
Included in the deal package agreed to between the Argentine and the Ligue 1 side is a one-year extension option. However, the bumper deal will see the player earn £1m per week during his two years stay at the club.
The six-time Ballon d'Or winner was pictured in Paris on Tuesday waving to his fans who came to receive him ahead of the completion of his transfer from Barcelona. His move will see him reunite with his former teammates Neymar Jr.
In terms of his payment, the striker's annual payment is expected to be in the region of £53m but his after tax payment will bring his weekly wages to £550,000. Even at that, he remains the highest-paid player followed by Cristiano Ronaldo and Neymar Jr.
