Marvel Will Not Recast T'Challa In 'Black Panther 2' In Honour Of Chadwick Boseman

The character T'Challa in Black Panther might have just ended with the demise of its portrayal Chadwick Boseman as Marvel Studio and Sony have decided not to recast the role in the sequel. The reason for the decision was to honor the deceased actor in the franchise.

Chadwick played the role in the first entry of the superhero film which was highly successive and closed at the box office as the seventh highest-grossing superhero film in history and most successful of the genre directed by an African-American.

Sadly, the lead actor passed away after a long battle with cancer which was unannounced until his death. Meanwhile, the filming of the sequel had already commenced at the time and that leaves the fate of his role to a supposed successor which will not be happening anymore to his honor as confirmed by the studios in a tweet.

Marvel revealed it would explore the rich characters in the first to make up for the lead role instead of recast T'Challa. It also confirmed that Ryan Cooglar will return as the film's director and writer.

"Black Panther 2, opening July 8, 2022, is being written and directed by Ryan Cooglar," the tweet reads. "Honouring Chadwick Boseman's legacy & portrayal of T'Challa, @MarvekStudios will not recast the character, but will explore the world of Wakanda & the rich characters introduced in the first film."

Marvel boss Kevin Feige also stood by the decision not to recast Chadwick's role in the franchise in a statement during an event presentation describing him as an "immensely talented actor and an inspirational individual who affected" a lot of lives in many ways.

Kevin continued: "His portrayal of T'Challa the Black Panther is iconic and transcends iteration of the character in any othermedium from Marvel's past."
