Real Madrid Beat AS Roma In Thrilling Last Minutes Rally

Real Madrid came from behind to thrash AS Roma 4-3 in the UEFA Champions  League, in a homecoming for Jose Mourinho, who left the Italians to join Real this summer. Both sides shared spoils in the first half before Roma took a 3-1 lead after the interval. Kylian Mbappe had a goal ruled out for offside before Real Madrid rescued the game and won.

Roma took the lead when Marten de Roon curled a 20-yard shot into the top corner. Mbappe restored level terms, scoring from 25 yards. In the second half, Malen restored the lead, scoring twice within eight minutes.

Then Real Madrid relaunched in the closing minutes to make a comeback. Carlos Espi tapped in a loose ball in front of the goal before Endrick's header equalised the scores. Rudiger scored the winner, tapping home a loose ball from Guler's header inside the six-yard box.

Mourinho secured his first UEFA Champions League win against the side he led to the UEFA Champions League last season. He led the Italians to win the inaugural UEFA Conference League Cup. Also, Mbappe scored on his 100th UEFA Champions League appearance.

Overview

Jose Mourinho had a warm welcome from his former team.  The second half came handy to Roma, with sharper attacking football. Mourinho's changes, introducing Endrick and Guler, made the difference. Both players produced attacking football that forced Roma to defend their box and enabled Real Madrid to win.

Chances and Assists

Real Madrid had an incredible game and won a game that nearly eluded them. Endrick was greatly influential on the team. His and Guler's influence produced the goals needed to win.

Malen was a standout player for the Italians. He was terrific up front against Real Madrid. Soule was another Roma player of significance. He was directly involved in Marten and Malen's goals.
