Paris Saint-Germain Win Six-Goal UCL Thriller Against Barcelona

Paris Saint-Germain delivered an impressive performance in their UEFA Champions League game against Barcelona,  claiming a 4- win at Parc des Princes.

The defending champions overpowered the Spaniards, dominating the pitch to score three goals in the second half alone. In their previous meeting in 2024, PSG eliminated Barcelona from the UEFA Champions League, losing woefully to the Ligue 1 side in the quarter-final second-leg tie.

After a blockbuster first half that ended with Desires Doue setting PSG on course with the opening goal in the 38th minute, Barcelona regained level terms when Espart struck in a fast break inspired by Fermin Lopez.

PSG  regained the lead when Hernandez pounced on a glaring header into the top corner before Lamine Yamal seized an incredible display of individual skill to restore level terms in the 79th minute. Unfortunately for Barcelona, their defense became vulnerable, and PSG scored twice through Vitinha and Fabian Ruiz, respectively, in the closing minutes.

While Espart's goal was his second of the season for Barcelona, Hernandez scored his first goal in two-and-a-half seasons. Barcelona have now lost back-to-back to Paris Saint-Germain in a major European competition.

Overview

Barcelona had a challenging and exhausting first half. They had little space to exchange passes, with PSG intercepting and causing them trouble from the French side. Neves closely marked Raphinha, rendering Barca frontline ineffective.

Yamal was incredible in the second half, but he alone can not make the day for Barcelona against a team like PSG. The French side maintained an offensive outlook, despite replacing Ousmane Dembele with Torres in the first half. Meanwhile, Torres had an impactful game. Garcia also deserved commendation for his effort. He made a couple of saves that kept Barcelona in the game. However, some of the goals conceded were avoidable.

Chances

In the first half, there were plenty of scoring chances, including Lopez and Torres. Neither player could score in a one-on-one with the goalkeepers. Another exciting moment came when Hakimi missed tapping in Doue's cross in front of the post.

In the second half, Torres missed another one-on-one chance, but this time, it clipped the frame and bounced out of touch. Doue was involved in most assists, giving PSG the most assists.  Yamal had a busy night after Raphinha was replaced; however, his goal alone was a masterclass.
