League Two Team Knock Arsenal Out to Advance to EFL Cup Quarter-finals

Fleetwood Town earned the biggest win in the club's history, defeating Arsenal on penalties after a 1-1 draw and advanced to the quarter-finals, eliminaing the Premier League defending champions from the EFL Carabao Cup.

Both teams had never met before at any competition. Fleetwood scored the first goals in the first half when Aaron Loupali darted into the box and finished off a low cut shot into the bottom right. In the second half, Viktor  Gyokeres leveled the terms with a volley inside the six-yard box.

Near the closing minutes, Arsenal dropped to 10-man when Max Dowman was sent off, following a rift with Neal. Moments later, Jay Lynch saved Ben White's side-footed shot and the game advanced to an extra-time. Fleetwood later secured the victory on penalties by 5-3 after Guimaraes missed his spot-kick

The League Two side became the lowest-ranked team to beat and knock Arsenal out of a major competition. The Gunners earliest knockout from the competition was in the third round by Brighton & Hove Albion in the 2022/23 season.
