Isak, Writz Lead Liverpool to Victory Against Brighton At Anfield

Liverpool got the job done at Anfield with a 2-0 win over Brighton, scoring twice in four first-half minutes and holding off a determined comeback.

Brighton came into the game unbeaten in eight matches, but that ended at Anfield. The Reds dominated possession and had more shots than the Seagulls. The victory extended Liverpool’s winning streak to four consecutive games across all competitions.

As the game progressed with both sides striving to get ahead, Liverpool broke the deadlock. Araujo inspired a build-up and found Bradley Barcola, whose cross ricocheted off Gross and fell into Florian Wirtz’s path. The attacker struck a low cut with his right foot, sending the ball into the corner, deflecting off Padcal Grob.

Five minutes later, Alexander Isak secured the lead with a second. Bradley Barcola stole the ball off Boscagli, who flopped on an aerial, and set it loose. The winger raced into the area and cut back a cross into the six-yard box for on-rushing Isak to tap in.

Brighton lost their first Premier League game, closing the gap with Liverpool to one point. Liverpool extended their winning run to four consecutive Premier League games and are fourth with 15 points.

Overview

Liverpool started brightly and looked dangerous from the opening minutes. Cody Gakpo tested Bart Verbruggen in the eighth minute, while Alexander Isak struggled to control a pass during another promising attack. Brighton wasted the chances that should have set them ahead with an opening goal in the 14th minute.

Chances and Assists

By every standard, Brighton had fair advantages to score in both halves. They had one of the earliest scoring chances when Diego Gomez cut back a pass to Yasin Ayari inside the penalty, but struck the ball wide. On another occasion, just after the break, De Cuyper wasted a glaring chance, making too many touches inside the box until he was blocked. The Seagulls' only shot on target came from Gomez's curly shot that clipped the woodwork in the 36th minute. Gomez influenced Brighton greatly, just as Cody Gakpo was for Liverpool in terms of assists.
