In attack, Marcus Rashford did not make the list due to an injury. Fernandes did not make the starting lineup for a reason, which Michael Carrick described as a drop in the player's performance after United's 4-1 loss to Como in the UEFA Champions League.

In the defensive midfield, you have players like Matthijs de Ligt and Kobbie Mainoo. Absent in the defensive midfield role is Mainoo, whose presence would have tightened up the midfield. Matthijs de Ligt was out recovering from a back injury.
