Fulham Held Manchester United to Draw at Craven Cottage

Manchester United left Craven Cottage with a point after Matheus Cunha’s late deflected strike rescued a 1-1 draw against Fulham.

Ahead of the match, Manchester United have had a difficult week after their EFL Cup elimination by Brighton. Earlier, they lost their previous Premier League derby against Manchester City, extending their winless run.

Fulham looked on course to secure all three points after Lisandro Martínez inadvertently turned the ball into his own net in the 63rd minute. But United pushed forward in the closing stages, and Matheus Cunha found the equaliser in the 89th minute to cap a dramatic finish.

A victory would have served Fulham better. They have remained winless since the season commenced. They drew their previous Premier League game against Liverpool and are reeling at the bottom of the Premier League table.

Overview

Fulham were sensational in the first half. Both sides created chances in the entertaining first half, but neither could find the breakthrough. Cunha almost did for Manchester United, setting Marcus Rashford up for a strike inside the penalty area, but the striker hit it wide.

The hosts kept the pressure on, taking 26 shots in the first half alone. The pressure became evident when Martinez turned in the ball for a won goal. Manchester United also terrified the hosts with a near miss from Cinha. Fulham controlled the first half, and they deserved the lead. King and Garcia were terrific and were standouts throughout the period.

Manchester United upped their game after the halftime break, and Michael Carrick's decision to bolster the frontline with Mason Mount and Patrick Dorgu paid off with the equaliser. They gained better control of the half and had multiple attempts before finding the back of the net.

Chances and Assists

Both sides came close to widening the margin, but the goal frame was a showstopper. Matheus Cunha's curly shot beat Bernd Leno to the goal but clipped the woodwork. On another occasion, Patrick Mbeumo attempted a left-footed low-cut shot at goal, but Leno parried it into safety. Josh King was close to setting Fulham ahead in the first half when his low-cut curly shot was deflected away into safety by Lammens' foot.
