Erling Haaland Scores As Manchester City Edge Coventry At Etihad Stadium

 

Manchester City remained unbeaten in the Premier League after defeating Coventry 1-0 at Etihad Stadium, extending their winning streak under Enzo Maresca. 

Newly promoted side Coventry are yet to secure their first Premier League victory and have lost three consecutive games. Erling Haaland scored the goal that set Manchester City on course to victory. The Norwegian striker has now scored back-to-back in the Premier League since the new season commenced. 

Haaland scored the winner with a header. Antonio Semenyo darted into the far right, cutting back into the penalty area for Haaland's header that beat Rushworth to the post.    

With three consecutive victories, Manchester City lead the Premier League table with nine points. In the summer, Enzo Maresca replaced Pep Guardiola, who stepped down to take a break from management. 

Overview 

Though Manchester City had a great game, they could have shared points with Coventry,  who had chances to level the scores. Awoniyi was closely marked and yet had a break that should have put the side ahead before Haaland's goal. 

Semenyo was a great influence on the game, creating great goalscoring chances. Cherki was also a standout and had a shot on target that should have set Manchester City apart. Enzo Fernandez was also prominent and played a significant role in the game. The Argentine made his debut after completing his transfer from Chelsea in a five-year contract worth £125 million, leveling the record set for a British transfer by Liverpool's Alexander Isak. 

Chances and Misses     

Coventry's pressure came in handy for Manchester City earlier in the game. On a counter, Awoniyi missed finishing a one-on-one goalscoring chance with Rushworth. Moments later, in a set piece,  Rudoni latched onto a throw-in for a goal-bound header that forced a save from Donnarumma. Before that, Cherki's effort had narrowly missed the goal, clipping the bottom left of the frame.
