Crystal Palace Win Opening-day UEFA Europa League Game

 

Crystal Palace opened their UEFA Europa League campaign with a 4-0 win against Lech Poznan, with Eddie Nketiah scoring the winning goal at Selhurst Park.

Lech Poznań, who secured their place in the competition by qualifying through the playoffs, had a difficult day against the European champions, losing one to a red card as Radoslaw Murawski was sent off in the closing minutes and also conceded a penalty, despite almost a shared game in possession. 

Palace seized a throw-in error from Yegbe, which Yeremy Pino latched onto and dashed into the box, finishing off into the bottom right corner. The second goal followed from a set piece when Chris Richards nodded home Wharton's corner. 

The Poles conceded one more goal before the halftime break; Pino drew a penalty from a challenge inside the 18-yard box and Strand Larsen converted the spot-kick. The winning goal followed after Murawski was sent off. Nketiah broke into the box on the right flank, dazzled three defenders and curled the ball into the right corner. 

Crystal Palace were making their first appearance in the UEFA Europa League and won their opening-day game. Pino became the first player to score for the club in the competition, which they reached after winning the UEFA Conference League title. 

Overview 

Needless mistakes and Tackles cost the Poles the game. Yegbe almost made up for his error by scoring a goal, but it was ruled out for offside. On the other hand, Crystal Palace had a better advantage regarding chances. Nketiah was impressive and could have scored more than one. Pino was a standout throughout.
