10-Man City Claim Manchester Derby Victory Over United At Old Trafford

 

10-man Manchester City held on and claimed a hard-fought 1-0 win against Manchester United in a derby at Old Trafford. 

City played a man down for most of the game after Phil Foden was sent off for a challenge on Bruno Fernandes It was the first red card in a Manchester derby since 2006. United losing the match extended their winless run to three in their previous four Premier League games. 

Erling Haaland moved into a scoring range from the right, with Gvardiol cutting back a cross into the penalty area. Enzo Fernandez reacted with a flying header, deflecting it into Haaland's path for a tap-in. The striker was unmarked and side-footed the ball into the net. 

Manchester City have remained unbeaten across all competitions since losing the Community Shield to Arsenal in August. Haaland has now scored in all four previous games across all competitions, bringing his goal tally to six. 

Overview

Manchester United had a great day, dominating after Foden was sent off. They moved the ball across the field, dominating the midfield and wings. Unfortunately, they could not turn the ball in, despite coming close. 

Foden got himself the red card for a needless tackle on Fernandes. Manchester City held on long enough and found a space for Haaland to strike. City had the goal frame and Donnarumma to thank for United's missed chances. 

Chances and Assists 

Haaland's goal was controversial, but Enzo Fernández was onside and reacted to Gvardiol's cross. It was a moment of brilliance from City. Kobbie Mainoo was unlucky not scoring. He struck a 20-yard shot that beat Donnarumma but bounced off the frame. Another United close call came when Mbeumo missed a one-on-one attempt with Donnarumma.
