Kylian Mbappe Nets Season's First Hat-trick As Real Madrid Beat Real Sociedad

It was a career milestone for Kylian Mbappe, scoring a hat-trick as Real Madrid thrashed 4-1 in their first home game of the season.

Real Madrid won their season opener 2-1 against Espanyol, giving their new manager Jose Mourinho a winning start on his return to the club. Last season, they finished second behind their arch-rivals, Barcelona, and were eliminated from the UEFA Champions League by Bayern Munich in the quarter-finals.

The French striker opened the scoring in the 40th minute with an individual effort, followed by an equaliser from Luka Sucic on the brink of halftime. After the break, the hosts retook the lead with two goals from Mbappe and one from Vinicius.

Scoring the hat-trick extended Mbappe's tally to 101 at Real Madrid, making him the first player to score three or more goals in La Liga this season. He now has six hat-tricks at Real Madrid in all competitions.
