Popular Nollywood Actress Tells Reasons She Enjoys Roles In Non-Englsh Language, Yoruba Films

Regina Chukwu has come out to tell her reasons for preferring roles in Yoruba movies to their English counterparts, with claims that could be controversial. 

Oftentimes, Nollywood movie stars have different versions of the hurdles of their rise to notoriety. Occasionally, they share similar experiences before and after their rise to fame. However, famous Yoruba film star, Regina Chukwu, has something to clear off her chest even though it might not be similar to other people's experiences. 

Many times, actresses have been rumoured to have had to get intimate with other practitioners to get roles. These speculations get shoved under the carpet as conspiracy theories. Nonetheless, Regina held a different position, claiming it was the reason she preferred a role in non-English language films, specifically, Yoruba language films. 

During her interview with Oyinmomo, she alleged sex-for-role was a thing and that the English industry is not as accommodating as its Yoruba counterpart. She alleged that even being an Igbo woman could not get her an easy pass for a role with her kinsmen. 

"For the English Industry, it was strictly sex for role, " she told Oyinmomo. "I tried auditioning several times, but they are not as accommodating as Yorubas."

Regina started her career with Ogunso and Idaro. She won the Best Actress in a Supporting role in 2019. Her most recent film is Battle on Bukka Street, cast as Charity.
