Morgan Rogers Joins Chelsea, Sets New Record For British Player

 

Barely a week after England won the 2026 FIFA World Cup Bronze, Morgan Rogers completed his transfer from Aston Villa to Chelsea. 

The seven-year deal worth £117 million, sets a new record for a British player, making Rogers the most expensive player in the Premier League. The deal upsets the previous record holder, Elliot Anderson by just a million pound after moving to Manchester City this summer. 

Furthermore, included in the contract is an option for an extension after it expiration in June 2032. Rogers, however, played a pivoted role in England's outing at the 2026  FIFA World Cup, particularly his influence in Anthony Gordon's opening goal against Argentina in the 2-1 semi-final loss. 

"For me, Chelsea are the biggest club in London," said Rogers. "I'm really excited about the project with the new manager, the players we've got, and where the club is heading."

Chelsea were not alone in the race for the striker. They outwitted Arsenal, who had been negotiating with Aston Villa. Arsenal were understood to have offered a lesser deal than Chelsea. Meeting the valuation set by Villa would mean that Arsenal will upset Declan Rice's club record-signing of £103 million.
