FIFA 2026: Switzerland Defeat Bosnia To Lead Group

 

Switzerland delivered a sensational second-half performance to dismantle Bosnia and Herzegovina 4-1, with substitute Johan Manzambi stealing the show by scoring twice.

Bosnia needed at least a point from the game, following their opening match draw against Canada, to stay in the tournament. Edin Dzeko, the veteran Bosnian captain and one of the most decorated strikers in Balkan football history, led the starting lineup.

The Swiss had to dig deeper to find goals, and they came midway through the game in the second half when Johan Monzambi struck. Unfortunately for Bosnia,  shortly after Tarik Muharemovic was red-carded, Switzerland doubled the lead through Ruben Vargas. 

With 10-man Bosnia, the Swiss piled huge pressure on their opponents. Vargas moved into space on the left and squared a pass with Manzambi, who, in one touch, guided home the third goal on the brink of full-time. However, both sides scored a goal apiece in the injury time..Ermin Mahmic scored Bosnia's only goal in the 92nd minute and Granit Xhaka scored Switzerland's winning goal from a penalty. 

Switzerland now leads Group B with four points. Bosnia will need to win their next match against Qatar to stay in the tournament. Meanwhile, Switzerland will proceed to face Canada in the next match.
