Ecuador were relentless until the moment of a set piece when they stunned the Germans. For most of the second half, Germany's passes were loose, and their movements with the ball were not sharp enough to threaten their opponents. The South Americans were aggressively looking for the winning goal.. It was complementary to the efforts.
Chances and Defense
Ecuador played a wide defense, allowing Germany to find the sweet spot and score the opener. Writz dazzled past the Ecuador defenders, who drifted too widely, leaving Sane unmarked. Writz slipped in a pass, and the post was wrenched. In a similar situation, the South Americans found the equalisers. The German left the right back widely spaced away for Angulo to advance to an unmarked space for a long-range strike.
Germany had the chance to take the lead before conceding the winning goal to Ecuador. Sane was one-on-one with a defender and shouldered him off to gain space for a strike. He struck the ball weakly and straight into the goalkeeper's hands. It was their best chance of the second half.
