Alexander Zverev Win Against Jakub Mensik, Reaches French Open Final For Second Time

 

Alexander Zverev has once again reached the French Open final for the second time in three years, after defeating Jakub Mensik in the semifinal, 7-5, 6-2. 3-6, 6-3. 

The German had an impressive run through the clay-court season, but without a trophy. He reached his first final of the season in Madrid, losing to the world number one, Jannik Sinner. He was a finalist in Roland Garros in 2024, making this edition his second final appearance.

Mensik got off to a great start, claiming the first game and a 3-5 lead before Zverev rallied, winning four straight games to claim the set. Zverev had to live up to the challenge of his drop shots. keeping his shots to the baseline. The second set went by quickly for Zverev, breaking in the third game. and the second time as the Czech double-faulted. 

Zverev struggled in the third set, losing to Mensik, who broke for the first time, taking an early 2-4 lead before winning the set. However, the German player recovered his tenacity in the fourth, taking an early 4-1 lead, and claiming the match point on Mensik's backhand error. 

Reaching the final in Roland Garros will be Zverev's fourth in Grand Slam events. He reached the final of the Australian Open for the first time last year, the season after he reached his first final in Roland Garros. 

In the final, he will face Flavio Cobolli, who reached the final after Matteo Arnaldi waled over the semi-final. Just as Zverev, Flavio has not won a Grand Slam final in his career. The final will also be his French Open maiden final appearance.
