Paris Saint-Germain Beat Bayern to Reach Third UEFA Champions League Final
Paris Saint-Germain have secured their place in the UEFA Champions League final after a 1-1 draw with Bayern Munich, winning on aggregate scores of 6-5.
The match, which was anticipated to witness the most goals on the second leg, did not follow the pattern of the first leg. The previous match witnessed the most goals in a single tie as PSG won the nine-goal thriller 5-4.
Ousmane Dembele in the third minute side-footed a cutback into the top corner. Kvaratskhelia darted into the left flank of the box and cut the ball back into the centre for Dembele to curl into the top corner. Bayern left it late before finding the equaliser from Harry Kane's strike.
In injury time, Lennart Karl latched onto the ball and released it to Alphonso Davies, who, in turn, passed it to Harry Kane. The English striker, on one touch, struck the ball into the right corner. The equaliser was late, and PSG held on to win.
PSG are the defending champions from the last edition and will face Arsenal in the final. Arsenal will be making their second UEFA Champions League final appearance since their first in 2006. The Ligue side won the trophy for the first time in 2025 and will be contending for the silverware for the third time after their first final appearance in 2020.
Overview
From the start, the match did not seem like a replica of the first leg. PSG avoided an energetic and pacey approach after taking the lead. They were more defensive that they would attack. They made a needless mistake that could have canceled their lead when Joao Neves was accused of handballing a clearance. The Referee ruled otherwise, and that saved the moment.
Midway through the second half, PSG were comfortable going defensive. Sesire Doue was replaced by a defender, leaving Bradley Barcoda, who replaced Dembele up front, to counter. Bayern reinforced the team with Nicolas Jackson, removing Jamal Musiala. It was a frustrating match for Harry Kane, dropping into midfield to win the ball over to the frontline.
Team Efficiency
PSG had the better of the first half, making dangerous advances into Bayern's box. Dembele's strike was a timely and precise one-touch goal attempt. The striker kept a low profile thereafter, while Desire Doule moved into a prominent position. Khvicha Kvaratskhelia's header was the closest PSG came to doubling the lead in the first half, and Doule's left shot from inside the box was another prominent moment in the second half.
Luis Diaz and Michael Olise were the standouts for Bayern Munich. Musiala was another prominent player with a couple of chances. Olise was the playmaker for the Germans, and his influence was felt across the pitch.
Chances and Assist
Harry Kane barely found chances to strike. It was a difficult game for the English striker, as he needed to hustle for the balls. Eventually, Lennart Karl broke through the centre while Harry Kane was loosely marked in the box, and Davies spotted him to wrench the post. It was the best moment for Harry Kane, despite the loss.
