Paris Saint-Germain Beat Arsenal On Penalties To Lift UEFA Champions League Trophy

Paris Saint-Germain are the UEFA Champions League winners for the second time in a row after defeating Arsenal in the final on penalties (4-3), following a 1-1 draw that forced the game into extra time.

Arsenal had never won the UEFA Champions League in its history. The farthest they have reached was the final under former manager Arsene Wenger in 2006, losing on both occasions they reached the final. They had led in the first half, with Kai Havertz's opening goal before PSG leveled from a penalty drawn from Cristhian Mosquera's tackle.

Havertz broke loose in the centre, latching onto a ball that ricocheted off Leandro Trossard and blasting the ball into the top of the net in the fifth minute. Midway through the second half, Ousmane Debele converted the penalty awarded for Mosquera's tackle on Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

As the scoreline remained even through the extra time, the game was decided on penalties. Eberechi Eze missed his penalty, and David Raya saved Nuno Mendes'. Unfortunately for Arsenal, Gabriel Magalhaes missed the final kick, and PSG won the trophy.

Paris Saint-Germain became the ninth club to win the UEFA Champions League back-to-back. They won the trophy for the first time last season, defeating Inter Milan 5-0 in the final.

Overview and Team Performance

Arsenal avoided an energetic tactic, slowing down the pace to keep their French side at bay. They relied on the counter with Havertz ahead and other attackers playing defensive roles. Their game plan paid off even though PSG made a comeback from a one-goal deficit, forcing the game into extra time.

Besides Dembele, Vitinha was a pain in the boots for the Gunners. The attacking midfielder repeatedly charged into the dangerous area, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who caused the penalty, was also a trouble for Arsenal at the front.

Mikel Arteta needed to change Bukayo Saka since he was already booked. The change was effective as Nino Madueke was dropped in the box, which could have given Arsenal a penalty and the victory. Despite the loss, David Raya played a significant role, making brilliant saves that kept Arsenal in the game.
