Manchester United Win Five-Goal Thriller Against Forest At Old Trafford

Manchester United outlasted Nottingham Forest in a thrilling clash at Old Trafford, claiming a 3-2 victory in Michael Carrick's first Premier League game as the club's manager on a permanent contract.

Carrick was signed to a two-year contract with an option for extension on Friday. The English had the side to an impressive performance since he took over the helm as interim manager from former head coach Rubem Amorim.

The hosts seized a rowdy moment in the opponents' box to take the lead. A loose header landed in Luke Shaw's path, and he guided a shot into the left corner. They were close to taking a two-goal lead when Bryan Mbeumo's effort clipped the framework.

Forest bounced back in the second half. The visitors seized a set piece to level the terms when Morato nodded home Elliot Anderson's cross, following a corner. It did not take long for United to respond with another goal to cushion their lead.

United broke in through the right flank, with Bruno Fernandes's cross setting Mbeumo up for a strike. His shot was deflected into Matheus Cunha's path, and the striker guided a shot into the net. United extended the lead midway through the second half as Mbeumo finished off Fernandez's cross.

Unrelenting Forest continued on their search for goals. They were unable to make a comeback, but pulled back a goal when Morgan Gibbs-White side-footed a shot into the net from the centre of United's box.

Mbeumo's goal was his 20th Premier League goal of the season, matching the record set by Kevin de Bruyne and retired Arsenal striker, Henry. United consolidated their position in third with 68 points, guaranteeing the side a UEFA Champions League qualification.
