Kimi Antonelli Wins Canadian GP As Lewis Hamilton Makes Podium

Kimi Antonelli led the Canadian Grand Prix in an accident-smeared race in Montreal, during which George Russell retired due to engine failure, and Lewis Hamilton made his second podium appearance of the season.

The Mercedes duo had been poised to finish the race in a one-two controlling race for the team until Lap 30, when Russell suddenly retired. Meanwhile, the pair had battled through the laps with Russell momentarily leading. The incident led to a virtual safety deployment, and Antonelli finished quickest in 1:28:15.758 seconds.

Hamilton delivered an impressive performance in Montreal. He trailed the Mercedes duo in third before improving to P2 after Russell's DNF. Red Bull's Max Verstappen also made the podium, earning his first P3 of the season. The former champion improved from P6  to make the podium.

Both Hamilton and Verstappen batted for P2 on Lap 62. The Red Bull driver was leading in provisional P2 until Hamilton sped by at Turn 1 of the lap. Hamilton overtook him, taking the inside lane while they were exiting the corner.

However, it was a disappointing race for McLaren after the F1 defending champion, Lando Norris, retired on Lap 40. The Briton suffered an electrical issue, which he told his team over the radio could be from the gearbox.

Sergio Perez was the fifth driver to DNF after crashing into the walls and damaging his front wheel on Lap 40. The Cadillac driver also retired from the race in the last edition, making it his second consecutive retirement in Montreal.

Antonelli finished the race for his fourth victory of the season, extending his F1 standing with 131 points. Hamilton increased his points to 72, closing the gap to Russell (88 pts).
