PSG Face Up To Bayern Munich Goal Thriller In UCL Semifinal First-Leg Showdown

Paris Saint-Germain had a nerve-wrenching showdown with Bayern Munich, winning 5-4 in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semifinal.

PSG, the defending UCL champions, have been formidable in the competition, but had a difficult night hosting Bayern, who held them to a draw in a ruthless comeback in a blockbuster second half.  Defending the UEFA Champions League title would mean a lot to PSG, as for the first time in the club's history.

The nine-goal thriller started with Harry Kane scoring from a spot kick, giving Bayern the lead, before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia finished off a fast break to level the scores for PSG. The first half ended with PSG in the lead, with Joao Neves and Michael Olise scoring for their sides before Ousmane Dembele scored from a penalty on the brink of halftime.

Just like the first half, it was a blistering second half with Kvaratskhelia curling into the left corner, Hakimi's cutback from inside the box. Dembele followed up with the fifth goal from an individual effort that clipped the frame before nestling into the net.

As fatigue set in for PSG midway through the second half,  Bayern seized the moments and narrowed the deficit, scoring two goals. Dayot Upamecano scored the third with a header, followed by Diaz's moment of brilliance, scoring the fourth from inside the 18-yard box.

Bayern will host their opponents in the second leg of the tie. However, they have not won the UEFA Champions League title since 2020. Meanwhile, the match was the first UEFA Champions League match to witness nine goals in a single tie.

Overview

It was a match of attack and attack. It was difficult for defenders on both sides to keep up, as both burrow into every side with pace and precise passes. Neither side blinked in the face of counterattacking football, with dangerous strikers like Dembele, Diaz, and Olise digging deep to deliver the best for their side. PSG should have had the day by a wider margin.

Olise and Diaz played a significant role in revamping Munich's attacking forward after they lagged in the early stages of the second half. As Bayern closed in on PSG on the left, Olise found space to barrel down to open PSG's left back. Both Diaz and Olise were difficult for PSG to keep up with, leading to their comeback to close the gap.
