Monte-Carlo Masters, Event Jannik Sinnik Is Yet To Win
Jannik Sinner has maintained an incredible run through ATP Masters 1,000 events with 32 consecutive set wins. The feat stands as a record for the longest unbeaten runs in Masters events. However, Jannik has never reached a final in Monte-Carlo.
Monte-Carlo Masters kicked off on Sunday. Jannik will be participating alongside other top players like Carlos Alcaraz, Gaƫl Monfils, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, and Stefanos Tsitsipas. Two-time champion Novak Djokovic will not be participating in the event after withdrawing last week.
The longest Jannik had reached in Monza was the semi-finals, on two occasions losing to Holger Rune in 2023 and Stefanos Tsitsipas in 2024. However, after winning two consecutive finals in the United States, the Indian Wells Masters and the Miami Open, he appears to be in good shape for the clay-court opening season event.
Besides ending his title drought in Monte-Carlo, the PIF World Rankings is set to change or stay the same depending on how far either Jannik or Carlos Alcaraz can go in this event. Both players reaching the final would mean Alcaraz would keep his position at No. 1. However, if Jannik reaches the final against a different opponent, Alcaraz would effectively lose the position.
Speaking of the event, Jannik said: "I know the position, the situation, and the scenarios, but it's not one tournament that will define who's No. 1 or No. 2."
He added, "I will try to win as many matches as possible, but at the same time, there are even more tournaments coming up. When you are a top player, you aim to win trophies. The points are, regardless, in a way."
Carlos won his maiden Monte-Carlo Masters 1,000 in the last edition. The top-seeded player. He won his maiden Grand Slam at the Australian Open in Melbourne earlier this season. However, he failed to reach the finals of the last two Masters 1,000 events, which Jannik won.
