Monte-Carlo: Jannik Sinner Sets Up Blockbuster Final Clash With Carlos Alcaraz
Jannik Sinner is in his maiden Monte-Carlo Masters, extending his set-winning streak to 42 in 43 after defeating Alexander Zverev in the semi-final.
Zverev lost to the second-seeded player in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1, and stood no break advantage, while the finalist claimed four in six break advantages. The match was dictated by the Italian, who has eliminated Zevrev in three consecutive semi-finals in the Masters 1,000 events this season.
Jannik set the record for the longest set-winning streak, claiming a straight 37 unbeaten run until his match against Tomas Machac in the round of 16. He won the previous two hard-court Masters 1,000 events at the Indian Wells and the Miami Open.
The final is set between Jannik and the defending champions, Carlos Alcaraz. The peer has a lot at stake in terms of winning the trophy. A victory for Jannik would mean the Italian player would end his title drought at the event and also overtake Alcaraz in the world rankings.
Likewise, Alcaraz has won two major singles titles this season. First at the Australian Open, followed by the Qatar Open title. Alcaraz defeated Valentine Vacherot in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4, in the semi-final. His clash in the final with Jannik will be the duo's first since the ATP World Tour Finals in November.
