Monte-Carlo: Jannik Sinner Drops Set To Beat Tomas Machac In Round of 16

Jannik Sinner resisted Tomas Machac's scare that ended his set-winning streak in the ATP Masters 1,000 events to reach the quarter-finals of the Rolex Monte-Carlo Masters.

The Italian player had to dig deeper to win in straight sets, as the Czech was resilient, holding on through a tiebreak in the second set before he was eliminated in three sets, 6-1. 6-7(3), 6-3, lasting for two hours.  Until the match, he had maintained an unbeaten set-run through 37 consecutive sets.

Monet-Carlo Masters is such a crucial tour for the Italian, who has not won a trophy at the event, and his quest to upstage Carlos Alcaraz in the world rankings. The farthest he had reached in the Monte-Carlo was the semi-final, which he achieved consecutively in the 2023 and 2024 editions.

Meanwhile, Jannik has been in impressive form this season. Despite failing to reach the final of the season-opening tournament, the Australian Open in Melbourne, and then another elimination in the quarter-final of the Qatar Open, he made a comeback to win two consecutive Masters 1,000 titles at the Indian Wells and Miami Open.
