Monte-Carlo: Carlos Alcaraz Claims Clay-Court Season Opening Match Win

Carlos Alcaraz kicked off the clay-court season with a straight win, 6-1, 6-3, against Sebastian Baez in the opening round of the Monte-Carlo Masters

The Spaniard breezed through the opening round within an hour and 10 minutes. Baez stood no chance as the top-seeded player converted a break-point advantage, 4-3 in the second set, and served an ace to claim the match point.

Beaz was meeting the World No. 1 for the fourth time and had been winless in all four encounters. Alcarz has maintained a clean sheet against Argentina, with ten consecutive set wins.

Alcaraz will be defending the Monte-Carlo Masters title, which he won for the first time in the last edition. He failed to reach the final of the last two consecutive Masters 1,000 finals at Indian Wells and Miami, putting pressure on his world ranking as Jannik Sinner closes in on him.
