Manchester City Claim Big Victory At Chelsea's Stamford Bridge Stadium

Chelsea were dealt a surprising home defeat by Manchester City, who thrashed the Blues by 3-0 at Stamford Bridge, closing the gap between the side and the Premier League leaders, Arsenal.

Manchester City were disappointed in their previous Premier League game before the international break, which they drew 1-1 against West Ham. As Arsenal lost to Bournemouth, the title was open, and Manchester City could not afford to forfeit the maximum points on their trip to London.

After the first half ended in a deadlock, Manchester City took the lead soon after the break, with Nico O'Reilly nodding in Rayan Cherki's cross. The lead doubled six minutes later as Marc Guehi tapped in Cherki's cross from close range.

Chelsea's effort to bolster the frontline by replacing Estevao with Alejandro Garnacho was greeted by another goal from Jeremy Doku. The winger capitalised on a loose ball from Moises Calceido and latched onto the box, striking a left-footed shot into the bottom right corner.

Manchester City regained its winning form in the Premier League game after winning the EFL Carabao Cup and eliminating Liverpool from the FA Cup to reach the semi-final of the competition. Chelsea have not remained winless in three consecutive Premier League games.

Overview

Chelsea came into the game courageously. Manchester City knew what was at stake. Losing the maximum point would mean a lot to their Premier League title race, which they stand a slim chance of. Gradually, Chelsea's aggression slowed down as Manchester City built up pressure and established control.

Returning from the halftime break, Chelsea were shattered as Manchester City took the lead from two early goals early into the second half. The visitors closed the midfield and pushed back on Chelsea's pressure. O'Reilly's overlap yielded an opening goal.

When the defender overlapped, Jeremy Doku moved into the centre-forward position, piling pressure on Chelsea's defense whilst they kept a close tab on Erling Haaland. Rodri and Bernando Silva maintained their position in the midfield. Semenyo held his position on the right and made his way into scoring range. Manchester City proved too difficult for Chelsea to hold down.

Going Forward

The Premier League appears to remain open should the table leaders, Arsenal, continue to lose games in the latter stages of the season. Manchester City's game plan was effective, clamping down on Chelsea's aggression. Pep Guardiola's men seem to have a technical edge over an average Premier League side.
