Jannik Sinner Maintains Form To Beat Cameron Norrie, Reaches Madrid Open Quarterfinal

Jannik Sinner remained undeterred in Madrid, eliminating British opponent Cameron Norrie in straight sets, 6-2, 7-5, to secure his place in the quarterfinals.

Norrie was not to be taken for granted, despite the match lasting no longer than 90 minutes. The Brit dug deeper in the second set, putting Jannik to work early, dragging the set into a tiebreak before losing out. The loss ended Norrie's bid for his third consecutive Masters 1,000  event quarterfinal appearance this season.

However, Jannik was up to the task, taking on Norrie. By the fifth game, he broke twice, keeping Norrie on the back foot with a 4-1 lead before serving out to claim the set. Norrie was impressive in the second set, breaking for the first time at 3-2 before Jannik broke again to win the set.

Dealing with Jannik's forehand was a huge challenge for Norrie. The Italian kept his shot deep and occasionally deployed drop shots. Norrie also deployed drop shots, but it did not work for him for long, as he had to cope with Jannik's cross-court shots and groundstrokes.

Besides Tomas Machac and Benjamin Bonzi, Jannik has not lost an opening set in Masters events this season, extending his match-winning streak to 25. Jannik has never won the Madrid Open before. The farthest he had gone was the quarterfinal in the 2024 edition.
