Jannik Sinner Digs Deeper Against Rafael Jorda To Reach Madrid Open Semifinal

Jannik Sinner continued in stride, qualifying for the Madrid Open semifinal for the first time after a hard-fought quarterfinal against Rafael Jorda.

The top-seeded player dug deeper and was relentless to win in straight sets, 6-2, 7-6(0). He broke only twice in a match that lasted for almost two hours. However, he extended his match-winning streak to 26 consecutive victories in the Masters 1,000 events.

Unlike previous matches, Jorda was a player of his own kind. He matched Jannik's strength for strength, forcing the match into a tiebreak, but he was quickly served out by the world number one. Both players were meeting for the first time, and Jannik will not forget him for a long time.

Though Jorda was unable to get himself going in the first set, he saved a breakpoint to win the third game and take a 1-2 lead before Jannik won four straight games to claim the set. Jannik broke twice to establish his control.

The second set was tougher for the Italian. Jorda saved three straight break points to take a 4-5 lead. At 5-5, Jannik was confident the match would go the distance. He served out at 5-6 and forced a tiebreak, where he breezed past the Spaniards, winning seven straight match points.

Jannik has remained unbeaten in a Masters 1,000 event since the last edition of the Paris Masters. He will make his maiden Madrid Open semifinal appearance in his bid to win his fourth consecutive Masters 1,000 event title.
