Aston Villa Claim Big Win Over Bologna To Reach UEFA Europa League Semifinal

Aston Villa delivered a statement performance under the Villa Park lights, dismantling Bologna 4-0 in a one-sided European clash, securing their place in the UEFA Europa League semifinal.

Villa neatly took down the Italians, further extending the goal margin by which they won. The victory has set them up for a blockbuster semifinal against their Premier League peers, Nottingham Forest. Bologna came under heavy hands in the first half as the likes of Ollie Watkins and Morgan Rogers thrashed the Itakians with goals.

After a Buendía effort was blocked inside three minutes, the breakthrough arrived on 16 minutes. Morgan Rogers twisted free on the left and squared for Ollie Watkins, who swept home from close range to ignite the Holte End. The lead doubled when Digne slipped in Emi Buendía on the left, and the Argentine buried a superb finish from a tight angle into the bottom left corner.

While frustration set in for the Italians, Villa rejuvenated the attack with more time before halftime. Villa’s third came on 39 minutes and was the pick of the half. John McGinn threaded Rogers in on the left side of the box, and this time the winger made no mistake, lashing a left strike low past Ravaglia.

In the latter stages, Villa were not done with scoring, topping up the scoresheet with the fourth. It arrived in the 88th minute, when Bailey's corner was headed loosely into Ezri Konsa's reach, and the defender struck a volley into the net.

Villa progressed to the UEFA Europa League Last Four on an aggregate score of 7-1. The victory also extended Villa's head-to-head count against Bologna to 4-0.
