Midjylland's Woeful Penalties Send Nottingham Forest to Historic UEFA Europa League Quarter-finals

Nottingham Forest secured their first European competition quarter-finals appearance in 30 years, following a comeback victory against Midtjylland on penalties.

Forest undid their 1-0 deficit from the first-leg ties, winning 2-1 on their trip to Midjyland. Thereby, the game went to penalties after an aggregate score of 2-2. Eventually, they outlasted their hosts to advance to the UEFA Europa League Last 8.

Nicolas Dominguez's header leveled the terms for Forest in the latter stages of the first half before Ryan Yates put the side in the lead with the second goal soon after the halftime break.

However, the hosts' relentlessness would pay off as Martin Erlic blasted home a loose ball inside the 18-yard box to restore level terms for the Danish side. Yates was meant to lead Forest to sail through with the winning goal, but the striker's goal from a header was ruled offside.

Fortunately for the visitors, Midjyland lost all their penalties while Forest scored all three of theirs. The Premier League side will advance to the quarter-finals for the first time in three decades.
