Miami Open: Terence Atmane Upstagesd Felix Auger-Aliassime To Advance R16

 

Terence Atmane delivered a thrilling upset in the Round of 32, eliminating Felix Auger-Alaissime in a three-set showdown and advancing to the Round of 16. 

Auger-Aliassime faced a strong challenge to outperform the French player, who knocked him out in three sets, 6-3, 6-1, 6-3. It was Atmane's first ATP Tour match against Auger-Aliassime, upstaging the Canadian, joining the list of the top 10 players who have been ousted from the tournament. 

Atmane withstood Auger-Aliassime's strong forehand shot attacks. He broke for the second time at 4-2 before winning the first set on his serve. However, he was swiftly thrashed in the second set, but Auger-Aliassime lost his grip on the decider, unable to save a break at 3-2 before the Frenchman claimed the match point on his forehand error. 

Meanwhile, this is not the first time that Atmane will impress in a major singles event. He was shot to limelight at the last edition of the Cincinnati Masters, where he reached the semi-final, defeating American home favourite Taylor Fritz, and thereafter, Holger Rune. Eventually, he was eliminated by Jannik Sinner in the semi-finals. 

Ranked No. 55, he will face an American opponent, Frances Tiafoe, in the Round of 16. The latter Jakub Menik in a three-set showdown 7-6(4), 6-4, 7-6(11)
