Maimi Open: Carlos Alcaraz Suffers Intriguing Upset From Sebastian Korda

Carlos Alcaraz was unable to go the distance at the Miami Open after losing to Sebastian Korda in three sets, 6-3, 5-7, 6-4 in the Round of 32.

Korda was playing his first match against a world number one, and he delivered an intriguing performance. Alcaraz had just failed to reach the final of the Indian Wells Masters in California after winning two consecutive hard-court finals - the Australian Open and the Qatar Open.

The American established his control on his first set, breaking for the first time at 4-3 before claiming a set point on his serve. He broke for the second time in the third game of the second set before Alcaraz rallied to break twice and claimed the set.

Alcaraz was neatly outclassed in the third set as Korda broke for the third time at 4-3. He claimed the match point on Alcaraz's forehand error and became the lowest-ranked player, No. 36, to beat the Spaniard after David Goffin.

Alcaraz started the season with an Australian Open victory, which was his first Grand Slam win in Melbourne. After winning his second title in Doha, Qatar, he was beaten by Daniil Medvedev in the semi-final of the Indian Wells Masters. Korda will face Karen Khachanov in the round of 16.
