Jannik Sinner Head to Semi-final Faceoff With Alexander Zverev

Jannik Sinner is set for a showdown with Alexander Zverev, whom he eliminated from the Indian Wells Masters in the semi-final en route to winning the tournament. The Italian player defeated American favourite Frances Tiafoe in the quarter-finals to book the slot.

Tiafoe stood no chance against the second-seeded player in the two-set clash, losing out in a one-sided match that was dominated by Jannik by 6-2, 6-2, lasting for an hour and 10 minutes.

The first set was almost a breeze through for Jannik, but Tiafoe showed resilience in the first game of the decider, saving a break point advantage to claim the first game. His resilience was later shattered as Jannik kept his forehand shot to the baseline and cross-court, claiming the match point on his serve.

Zverev, however, in a separate match, outlasted an Argentine opponent, Francisco Cerundolo, in two sets, 6-1, 6-2, and improved to 4-3 in head-to-head meetings against world no. 19. The German player has not won an ATP singles title since his last in his hometown at the Munich Open in April last year.

Jannik extended his winning streak to his 28th consecutive set win in an ATP Masters 1,000 event. The Italian player, who is a three-time finalist, won his maiden Miami Open Masters 1,000 event title in 2024, three seasons after his maiden final appearance at the event, which he lost to Hubert Hurkacz in 2021.
