Arsenal Live Up To London Derby Challenge Against Chelsea
Arsenal claimed a crucial victory against Chelsea in a London derby at Emirates Stadium in a comeback by 2-1 and consolidated their position atop the Premier League table.
Mikel Arteta's men maintained their impressive performance, despite several stunning attacks from Chelsea. In their previous game, they delivered an emphatic response to their previous disappointing outings by thrashing Tottenham Hotspur 4-1 in last weekend’s North London derby to stay clear of Manchester City at the top of the table. Though today's game was challenging, they yet lived up to the task.
William Saliba's header put Arsenal in the lead before Chelsea responded on the brink of halftime, leveling the terms from Piero Hincapie's own goal following a corner. Midway through the second half, Jurrien Timber nodded in a cross from DeClan Rice's corner, and Arsenal regained the lead.
Having won the game, the Gunners are now unbeaten in six Premier League matches, they won four and drawn two. The Emirates Stadium has also been a formidable fortress in such matches, as they’ve won all five home league London derbies this season.
Overview
Arsenal fought to the end but managed to hold on by the whiskers in injury time. Arsenal had a couple of scares in the closing minutes, with Chelsea advancing into scoring range, threatening the Gunners with close-shave scoring moments. Arsenal were fatigued and had lapses in defense. Those factors are the striking differences between Arsenal and their closest rivals, Manchester City. However, Raya was to the rescue, and Arsenal came out of the match with maximum points.
