Miami Open: Alexander Zverev Edges Quentin Halys To Reach Quarter-finals

Alexander Zverev advanced to the Miami Open quarterfinals, battling a back-to-back tiebreak against Quentin Halys in the Round of 16.

Zverev eliminated his French counterpart in straight sets, 7-6(4), 7-6(1), saving all six break point advantages that Halys had. Zverev had not reached the final in the Miami Open Masters 1000 after making his maiden final appearance in 2018, losing to John Isner.

"The conditions were trickier," Halys reflected. "It was cold, and it was hard for me to score from the baseline so I had to grind every point. I don't have too many regrets either; it was really close."

Halys lost on his first head-to-head meeting with the German, who reached the semifinal of the Indian Wells Masters 1000. He was making his maiden appearance in Miami and had not dropped a set until the Round of 16.
