Tom Edozie Injury Time Goal Wrench Arsenal At Wolves'

Arsenal suffered a devastating setback in a dramatic 2-2 draw at Molineux against Wolverhampton Wanderers, following a stunning injury-time own goal from Riccardo Calafiori

Arsenal started impressively. They needed to undo the flop from their previous game, which they drew against Brentford. Unfortunately, they were unable to overcome Wolves, who maintained composure and forced a draw.

The first half belonged to Arsenal, with Bukayo Saka's fifth-minute header setting the tone for a dominant opening 45 minutes. The Gunners controlled possession, with Declan Rice's pinpoint cross finding Saka unmarked at the back post. Wolves struggled to cope with Arsenal's pace and movement, and it took a series of impressive saves from José Sá to keep the score level.

However, the hosts grew into the game, and a Jean-Ricner Bellegarde challenge on Martín Zubimendi earned him a yellow card in the 71st minute. Arsenal capitalized on the extra man, with Piero Hincapié's strike doubling their lead in the 56th minute. The goal was awarded following a VAR review, and it seemed Arsenal would cruise to victory.

But Wolves had other plans. Hugo Bueno's stunning strike in the 61st minute sparked a frantic finale, and the hosts pushed for an equalizer. Arsenal's Riccardo Calafiori was forced off injured in stoppage time, and his replacement, Eberechi Eze, saw his shot fly narrowly wide.

Wolves built up pressure from the left flange, leading to a cross that will set up Tom Edozie for a strike inside the box. And then, in the 90th minute, disaster struck for Arsenal. Calafiori's attempted clearance looped into his own net, handing Wolves a late equalizer. Eze's subsequent effort was blocked, and the game ended 2-2.

Arsenal lost a much-needed maximum points to stay well ahead in the Premier League table and shared points with Wolves, instead. Wolves remained in the bottom 20th of the table, despite the outcome.

Overview

It was a disastrous end for Arsenal, despite desperately needing a victory to keep the Premier League title race alive, and Wolves knew that. Their hosts were defensive and would go on the attack. Arsenal's challenge was the inability to open Wolves up from the wings, which the latter did a good job in closing up and avoided conceding free kicks in front of the goal.

Wolves' return from the halftime break was more productive than it was earlier. They were able to force defend their lead and had better possession.  Arsenal could barely cause a scare and keep possession. Wolves closed spaces and were a little physical. Being under pressure for too long was consequential for Arsenal. Hence, the draw, despite the substitutions made to reinforce the midfield and forward.
