Stuttgart Secure UEL Round of 16 Over Celtic
Celtic secured a 1-0 victory over VfB Stuttgart at the Mercedes-Benz Arena, and are out of the UEFA Europa League after the Germans qualified for the Round of 16 on aggregate, 4-2.
The Scottish side was unable to complete their comeback effort, despite winning the second-leg playoff by 1-0 at the MPH Area Stuttgart Stadium. They won with an early goal in the first minute, though they barely dominated the game.
It was Luke McCowan who struck gold for Celtic in the opening minutes. The Scotts broke through the midfield in the early minutes, leading to Junior Adamu playing in Luke McCowaninside the box. He wasted no time striking the ball down the bottom right of the post.
Stuttgart pushed for an equalizer, but Celtic's defense held strong, and the visitors threatened their hosts on counterattacks. They stepped up the pressure in the second half, with Deniz Undav and Chris Führich causing Celtic problems. The Germans threw everything forward, but Celtic goalkeeper Sinisalo produced a string of stunning saves to keep the lead.
The Germans have now qualified for the UEFA Champions League Round of 16, while the Scots are eliminated.
