Omar Marmoush's Brace Takes Manchester City To Carabao EFL Cup Final
Manchester City are on their way to the Carabao EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium, following their 3-1 defeat of Newcastle United at Etihad Stadium.
Omar Marmoush was the star player of the day, contributing two goals to the scoresheet. However, Antoine Sememnyo played a significant role in the game, and his efforts led to assisting two goals, one from Marmoush and another from Tijjani Reijnders.
It was a thrilling first-half showdown that quickly stifled Newcastle's aggression. The Magpies had the opportunities to restore level terms in the first period, but Willock and Anthony Gordon forced saves from James Trafford instead.
Marmoush's first goal resulted from Dan Burn's clearance that ricocheted off him into the net. He scored the second goal, nodding in a loose ball from Kieran Trippier's clearance inside the six-yard box. The third goal followed three minutes later when Reijnders darted down the pitch and played a pass to Semenyo, but a poor clearance from Burn ricocheted the ball to Reijnders to score.
Anthony Elanga later pulled one goal back for Newcastle in the second half. The striker dribbled past three players and curled the ball into the net. Earlier, Wissa missed a scoring opportunity after a sloppy pass from Abdukodir Khusanov set him off.
Manchester City will face their Premier League counterparts, Arsenal in the Carabao EFL Cup final at Wembley Stadium on 22 March 2026.
