Manchester City Come From Behind To Beat Liverpool At Anfield

Liverpool forfeited a should-be victory as Manchester City fought back to claim a win by 2-1 at Anfield, consolidating their position in the race to the Premier League title.

Manchester City recovered its winning form after a setback from a draw against Tottenham. Liverpool proved to be tough, but they remained resolute, and Bernando Silva was instrumental to the comeback by scoring the equaliser.

The game went the distance into the second half before Dominik Szoboslai scored the opening goal from a free-kick. 10 minutes later, City responded as Erling Haaland's flicker from a header landed right for Silva to poke into the home from close range.

Manchester City snatched the victory as Haaland scored the penalty awarded against Allison for his challenge on Matheus Nunez in injury time. Silva scored what should have been City's third goal from the centre field, but the effort was ruled out for a challenge from Szoboslai on Haaland.

The victory reignited the race to the Premier League title between Manchester City and Arsenal, who now lead by six points. Liverpool continued to struggle to climb to the top five and are sixth with 39 points.

Overview

Both sides were well into the game and handled each other's offensive advances adequately. Allison miscalculated his reaction to Nunez's advances in the box and gave away a penalty that decided the fate of the game. Szoboslai got himself red-carded, trying to defend an empty box that Allison left behind in search of an equaliser. It was a disappointing closing minutes for the Reds.

Liverpool fairly dominated the second half, taking the lead from Szoboslai's free kick, but they were undone by allowing Manchester City to regroup and press them high up the pitch. Berbardo Silva read the situation correctly, and Szoboslai was way too deep into the box to keep Manchester City onside for a strike. Liverpool lost to its opponents, who would not stop trying.
