Italy Wins Second Gold In Speed Skating
Italy's team of short skaters won the final of the 2,000m mixed short track relay, outpacing Canada and Belgium to clinch the gold medal for the country.
The Italians moved up in the lead midway through the laps, overtaking China to lead the track to the end. They led by a wide margin, crossing the finish line in 39.019 seconds ahead of Canada and Belgium, who claimed the silver and bronze medals, respectively.
However, amongst the Italian team was Arianna Fontana, who became the most decorated Winter Olympian with 12 gold medals from six Games. The streak put her in parity with the previous record holder and compatriot, Edoardo Mangiarotti.
On Saturday, Italy won its first gold as Francesco Lollobrigida clinched the medal in the 3,000m speed skating. The Italian team is now seventh in medal standings with two golds, two silvers, and seven bronzes.
